Welcome ------- Thank you for downloading the academic version of STATLETS. STATLETS is a package of over 50 pure Java applets for performing various types of statistical analyses. It may be executed from within a Java-enabled browser such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, or run as a standalone application using the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Execution from within a browser ------------------------------- To begin the program, load your browser and open the file STATLETS.HTM. That file will be located in the same directory as this "readme" file. Then follow the instructions on that page. Execution as a standalone application ------------------------------------- Run the batch file "RunStatlets.bat" located in the \statlets\free subdirectory. This file contains the single line jrew -cp \statlets\free AppFrame which executes STATLETS using the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). If you do not have the JRE on your computer, you may download it from Sun Microsystems at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre. The entry "\statlets\free" indicates the directory in which the Statlets class files have been installed and may have to be changed. To find the correct directory, look for the file "AppFrame.class" which is the main Statlets class file. If you are having trouble, change the line to jre -v -cp \statlets\free AppFrame This will display error messages in a window. Copy the lines indicating the problem and e-mail them to us at help@statlets.com. User's Manual ------------- There is an on-line User Manual with instructions about using the program. You may also select any statistical procedure and press the EXAMPLE button to analyze a sample data set.
